Wrocław Institute of Culture – Barbara: a space of possibilities!
Barbara – the headquarters of the Wrocław Institute of Culture – combines the functions of a space for cultural activities and a café, providing the perfect meeting place in the heart of the city.
Barbara has two compatible rooms you can use: the Culture open space and the adjoining meeting room. They are the optimal solution for organisers of diverse events: conferences, presentations, castings, industry shows, meet-ups, workshops or business meetings.
Barbara has been a landmark on Świdnicka Street since the early 1960s. This was the name of a cult fast-food bar, popular especially among young rebels, including the first Wrocław hippies.
The restaurant closed its doors in the 1990s, only to regain its splendour during Wrocław’s preparations to become the European Capital of Culture 2016. The impressive revitalisation of the space, designed by Major Architekci studio, was inspired by the modernist plans from over half a century ago. In the course of works a display window designed by Jerzy Tarnawski, which lets plenty of light into the interiors, was reconstructed as well as the distinctive black and white tile mosaic on the columns. As a result, in the modern interiors, furnished with works by contemporary Polish designers, you can still feel the atmosphere of the times when people used to go on dates over sultan’s cream dessert in Barbara.
