Open Day at Popowice Depot

On 27 September, the Popowice Depot will open its gates to residents and public transport enthusiasts. The program is filled with attractions – from guided tours of historic trams and buses, to expert lectures, and special rides on heritage vehicles.

Detailed information:

Guided tours of the depot: 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30 (starting at the information point)

Snowplow demonstrations: 10:20, 11:20, 13:20, 14:20, 16:20 (near the wagon)

Tours of historic vehicles (with a focus on those renovated this year; starting at the information point): 12:15, 15:15 (guided by historian Dr. Tomasz Sielicki)

Lectures:

  • 11:00 – Dr. Tomasz Sielicki (Association of Public Transport Enthusiasts, Wrocławski Neptun): The most Wrocław tram – 100 years of Linke-Hofmann Standard cars

  • 12:00 – Dr. Tomasz A. Miś (Association of the Wrocław–Milicz Narrow-Gauge Railway, Association of Public Transport Enthusiasts): Wrocław trolleybuses

  • 12:30 – Michał Wychodil (Railway Enthusiasts’ Club): Wrocław railway stations and the Wrocław Railway Junction

  • 13:30 – Dr. Tomasz A. Miś: Wrocław Commuter Railway

  • 14:00 – Prof. Józef Sawicki (Wrocław University of Science and Technology): Memories of Wrocław’s public transport in the 1950s

  • 15:00 – Dr. Eng. Igor Gisterek (Wrocław University of Science and Technology): Quo vadis, public transport in Wrocław

Lectures will take place in Hall 1026 (western brick hall).


Rides with historic public transport vehicles

Tourist tram line T, running every 30 minutes on a special route:

POPOWICE DEPOT – Legnicka – Śrubowa – TAT – Świebodzki Station – pl. Orląt Lwowskich – Podwale – Świdnicka – OPERA – Teatralna – Skargi – Galeria Dominikańska – Oławska – Traugutta – pl. Powstańców Warszawy – Grunwaldzki Bridge – pl. Grunwaldzki – Curie-Skłodowskiej – Zwierzyniecki Bridge – Wróblewskiego – CENTENNIAL HALL/ZOO

…and back via the same route.

Departures from Popowice Depot: 9:35–15:35 every 30 minutes.
Departures from Centennial Hall: 11:20–16:20 every 30 minutes.
Departures from Opera stop: 10:05, 10:35, then every 30 minutes from 11:35–16:35.

The line will be operated by Konstal 102Na and Konstal 105Na trams. Historic trams will stop at all intermediate stops.


Special bus line M22, running every 60 minutes on the route:

POPOWICE DEPOT – Legnicka – pl. Jana Pawła II – Ruska – Kazimierza Wielkiego – Galeria Dominikańska – Podwale – Dworcowa – Piłsudskiego – MAIN RAILWAY STATION

…and back via the same route.

Departures from Popowice Depot: 10:20–15:20 every hour.
Departures from the Bus Station: 10:45–15:45 every hour.
Departures from pl. Jana Pawła II: 10:58–15:58 every hour.

The line will be served by the historic Ikarus 280.70E bus.

  • Linke-Hofmann Standard #1076 tram to Tarczyński Arena: 10:15–15:15 (hourly)

  • Maximum #325 tram to Tarczyński Arena: 10:45–15:45 (hourly)

  • Historic buses (e.g. Jelcz RTO, weather permitting) to Tarczyński Arena: 10:55–15:55 (hourly)


Exhibitions on the depot grounds

Passenger trams: Maximum #325, Linke-Hofmann Standard #1076, #1192, Konstal N #1332, Konstal ND #3560, Konstal 102Na #2069, Konstal 105Na set #2566+2567+2568, Tatra T3 #999.

Utility trams: spraying tram G-061, Konstal 4N G-048, plough tram ZT-K126, rail grinders (including Bremen), transport lorries, snowplough lorries.

Historic buses: Jelcz 272 MEX “Fredruś”, Jelcz 043 (several units, one under renovation, one from the History Centre Depot), Jelcz 080 with trailer P-080, Jelcz PR110 (one under renovation), Jelcz M11, Jelcz M121M (two units), Ikarus 260.32, 260.43, 280.26, 280.17, 280.70E, Autosan H9 (two units), Ikarus-Zemun IK 160P.

Also on display: service vehicles, accident commission vans, technical rescue units, Star 266 crane.


Open facilities:

  • Hall 1026 (western brick hall) – with lectures and relaxation area

  • Hall 1027 (eastern brick hall) – trams awaiting renovation

  • Former bathhouse

  • NeonSide warehouse with neon signs awaiting renovation

Parade of trams and buses

The event will conclude at 17:00 with a parade of trams and buses, starting from Popowice Depot, continuing through the city (Legnicka, Na Ostatnim Groszu, Strzegomska, Podwale, Świdnicka, pl. Teatralny, Widok, Szewska).

Buses will depart with passengers at 17:00 from the depot. Trams will join at the Wrocławski Park Przemysłowy loop around 16:30.

The parade will end on Szewska Street, after which vehicles will continue to different parts of the city – serving passengers on their way back.
