Wrocław at IMEX Frankfurt 2025
2025-05-23The world’s most prestigious culinary publication – the MICHELIN Guide – has officially announced its selection of Wrocław restaurants featured in the 2025 edition. This marks a historic milestone for the city’s gastronomic scene: 22 venues have received a MICHELIN recommendation, and three – BABA, IDA Kuchnia i Wino, and TARASOWA– have been awarded the coveted Bib Gourmand distinction, granted for outstanding quality at moderate prices.
– This is the best debut in the history of the MICHELIN Guide in Poland – 22 recommended venues in one city! Let me remind you, there are only about 20,000 such restaurants worldwide. Special congratulations go to the three female chefs who earned the Bib Gourmand award – it’s not only an honor but also a commitment to sharing culinary excellence, said Maciej Dobrzyniecki, President of the Polish Academy of Gastronomy and Vice President of the International Gastronomic Academy.
Wrocław’s inclusion in the MICHELIN Guide is the result of years of consistent work building a culinary brand. It’s a symbolic success that also serves as a powerful driver for the region’s tourism and gastronomy sectors.
– The local industry has waited years for this. From workshops and promotional campaigns to international events – the results of consistent work are now visible, emphasized Radosław Michalski, Director of the City Brand Department.
In 2024, Wrocław welcomed 6.6 million visitors. Increasingly, tourists come not just for architecture and culture, but also for the city’s flavors. Tourist traffic increased by 10%, international visitors by 6.6%, and Wrocław Airport handled 4.5 million passengers. December alone – thanks to the Christmas Market – attracted over 700,000 visitors. Tourism brings the city at least PLN 450 million annually.
– We took the next step – promoting not just Wrocław as a destination, but intentionally building its culinary DNA. The MICHELIN Guide recognized what locals and guests have felt for some time – that Wrocław’s flavors deserve international acclaim, said Alfred Wagner, Deputy Director of the City Promotion and Tourism Department and President of the Wrocław Tourism Organization (WROt).
The MICHELIN effect translates into measurable impact: restaurants listed in the guide report an average 40% increase in revenue. What’s more, 57% of business travelers choose to extend their stay, and 71% of tourists spend an average of €40 more while in the city.
Wrocław’s culinary scene comprises over 1,000 establishments, including more than 100 restaurants in the Market Square and 400 in the Old Town. The city’s gastronomic promotion strategy is built on cooperation – with the Wrocław Gastronomy Council, Tourism Council, and WROt joining forces to support restaurateurs and enhance the city’s position on Europe’s culinary map.
A culinary audit in 2023 confirmed Wrocław’s potential. It led to the creation of a strong network of chefs and restaurateurs, along with a list of regional products that now shape the city’s local culinary identity. One example is the “From Field to Wrocław Table” initiative, promoting short supply chains and sustainable cooking by connecting chefs with local producers.
The city also invests in education – the “Gastro Academy” offers training for newcomers to the industry, while the “Wrocław Culinary Grand Prix” supports young talent with the opportunity to intern at a MICHELIN-starred restaurant.
Wrocław showcases its cuisine through numerous events: from the Christmas and St. John’s Markets, to the Street Food Festival, Wine and Cheese Festival, Good Beer Festival, and the new Delicje Culinary Festival. In 2025, Wrocław also co-organized the Made For Restaurant – Cross The Borders conference at the Centennial Hall.
