May 6 in Wrocław – MADE FOR Restaurant: Cross the Borders
2025-04-30Wrocław – a city of meetings, culture and exceptional cuisine – officially joins the prestigious MICHELIN Guide. This is a great distinction not only for the local gastronomic scene, but for the entire Lower Silesia region.
-
The presence of Wrocław in the MICHELIN Guide is proof that our hospitality, creativity and openness are also reflected on the plates. This is a great day for Wrocław’s gastronomy and for the whole city, which is not afraid to reach for the highest standards – also in taste – says Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wrocław.
-
Today’s Michelin announcement is above all a success of Wrocław’s gastronomic industry and the fulfillment of dreams for many of its representatives – says Radosław Michalski, Director of the City Brand Department at the Wrocław City Hall – and for us, another tool for promoting Wrocław. Wrocław will be included in the next edition of the world’s most famous culinary guide, but work on the Wrocław gastronomic brand will continue in the coming months. Today, we keep our fingers crossed for all those waiting for the announcement of which venues will be included in the latest edition of the guide.
– Wrocław officially joins the global family of the Michelin Guide. The presence of Wrocław means that its restaurants will be able to join the so-called Formula One – among 20,000 addresses worldwide showing the way in which all the best restaurants are developing. The Michelin Guide is not just fine dining – it is also a tool shaping the consumer awareness of society as a whole. It is a signpost followed by the entire tourism sector – says Maciej Dobrzyniecki – President of the Polish Gastronomy Academy, Vice President of the International Gastronomy Academy based in Paris, the exclusive partner of the Michelin Guide in Poland.
– The entry of the Michelin Guide into Wrocław is the best news for Wrocław’s gastronomic sector. It is also the best news for the entire tourism industry and one of the best for Wrocław and our residents. Restaurants featured in the guide record, on average, a 40 percent increase in income. The Michelin effect includes, among other things, 57 percent of business tourists deciding to stay at least one night longer, and 71 percent of tourists who will spend on average 40 euros more in Wrocław – says the Deputy Director of the City Promotion and Tourism Department, President of the Wrocław Tourist Organization.
Although the Wrocław City Hall has been working for many years to support the development of Wrocław’s gastronomic brand, recently there has been a noticeable intensification of activities in this area. With over 1,000 gastronomic venues, including more than 100 restaurants on the Market Square alone and 400 in the Old Town, the city attracts not only with its monuments but also with its diverse cuisine. These are venues of various types, from street food through gastronomic hubs to top-tier restaurants – Wrocław’s culinary offer is rich and increasingly recognized both in Poland and abroad. Today, basically anyone, regardless of culinary preferences, can find something for themselves in Wrocław.
– What distinguishes Wrocław’s gastronomy is its multiculturalism. Here we can find Italian, Mexican, Korean, Ukrainian cuisine, and many others. These culinary influences harmoniously blend with local identity, creating a unique quality that attracts both tourists and residents – emphasizes Małgorzata Golak, Director of the Economic Development Office of the Wrocław City Hall.
The city has been consistently pursuing a gastronomic brand development strategy for several years – the Wrocław Gastronomy Council, Tourism Council and Wrocław Tourist Organization have been established – playing a key role in the development and promotion of the city’s culinary scene, supporting restaurateurs, initiating events and consistently building the city’s position on the gastronomic map of Europe.
In 2023, an international culinary audit was carried out, assessing Wrocław’s restaurants in terms of quality, innovation and potential for inclusion in prestigious guides. As a result of the audit, in 2024 a series of meetings began with Mr. Maciej Dobrzyniecki, President of the Polish Gastronomy Academy. These meetings brought together a true gastronomic community of owners and chefs. On average, about 60 people participated in each meeting. During them, a list of regional products was also agreed upon.
A strong aspect of Wrocław’s culinary scene is its locality and seasonality. Many restaurants cooperate directly with Lower Silesian producers, the best example of which is the “From the Field to the Wrocław Table” project, promoting the shortening of supply chains and a sustainable approach to cooking. Three editions of mini-fairs were organized under the initiative, enabling restaurateurs to directly connect with local food producers.
Wrocław is also developing gastronomic education – the “Gastro Academy” project is a series of training sessions for people wanting to start a career in the industry. The first edition included 29 training sessions conducted by 23 experts, benefiting 60 participants. The next edition starts soon – on May 12. Wrocław also supports young talents. The “Culinary Grand Prix of Wrocław” competition, whose first edition was won by Łukasz Budzik from the restaurant Między Mostami, promotes local chefs and gives them real development opportunities – such as an internship at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Sweden. The second edition of the competition will conclude in October 2025.
Events such as the Christmas Market and its “Social and Local Wrocław” zone, the Midsummer Market, the Wrocław Wine and Cheese Festival, the Street Food Festival and the Wrocław Good Beer Festival have also contributed to promoting the Wrocław culinary scene. In 2023, the first edition of the DELICJE Culinary Festival took place with great success, promoting local producers and regional cuisine. The next edition is scheduled for June this year. An integral part of these activities is the “Fall in Love with Wrocław’s Marketplaces” campaign, supporting local shopping and promoting Lower Silesian traditional and regional products.
In 2024, Wrocław was a partner of the Made For Restaurant conference in Warsaw and supported the event in Poznań, promoting Wrocław’s gastronomy among industry leaders. In the Forbes&FOR TOP 50 Restaurateurs ranking, as many as five restaurateurs from our city were among the best in Poland, highlighting the city’s growing position on the country’s culinary map. This year, Wrocław is co-organizing the Made For Restaurant – Cross The Borders conference at the Centennial Hall, featuring top chefs and local food producers. The event includes not only cooking shows by top chefs, but also presentations by local producers, tasting workshops and, above all, expert discussion panels on the future of gastronomy.
