In December 2008 Poland was visited by Dalajlama XIV - religious and political leader of Tibetan nation, who proclaim values of peace, freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights.
Dalai Lama XIV Tenzin Gjatso since 1959 has been leader of Tibetan nation on exile in India, in Dharamsali. His Holiness is a Nobel Prize winner and received several dozen titles of doctor honoris causa of the most prestigious Universities from around the world. It was his third visit in Poland, which he had visited earlier in 1993 and 2000.
During his week-long visit Dalalama XIV visited Gdańsk, Kraków, Warszawa and Wrocław. His Holiness participated in a conference organized in Gdańsk because of 25th anniversary of rewarding Lech Wałesa with Nobel Peace Prize. In Kraków he received a title doctor honoris causa of the Jagiellonian University. In Wrocław he was rewarded with a title of honorary citizen. He also met with members of Polish parliament and gave a public speech in Warsaw.
During his third visit in Poland, religious leader of Tibetan nation spent 2 days in Wroclaw. During his meeting on 9 December in Hala Stulecia, he gave a speech “Importance of Peace & Tolerance” to 5 thousands of Wroclaw citizens. He had met with mayor of Wrocław - Rafał Dutkiewicz. Next day on 10 december leader of Tibetan people received a title of honorary citizen of Wrocław - "Civitate Wratislaviensi Donatus 2008".
